Our Mission

The Cambodian Medical Clinic Foundation is a private non-profit 501c3 agency which provides four important program opportunities for the villagers of Phoum Thom, Cambodia.  These programs  include the opportunity to receive health and wellness care in the village clinic, social awareness and skill building for young girls, ages 5-18 in Girl Guides, (WAGGS) University Scholarships for high school girl graduates, and water filters for families, in partnership with the Springfield, MA Rotary Club.

The Clinic

The Phoum Thom Medical Clinic was built in 2005 in response to the high mortality rate for mothers giving birth as well as their newborn infants. To respond to local needs, general medical and emergency help was also offered. The nearest  hospital is 45 miles away,  in the capital city. In 2008, an addition to the clinic was built just for birthing new babies and an outdoor waiting room was added to service the high patient population seeking medical attention.

The University Girls

Girls in Phoum Thom are invited to apply for a four-year scholarship to one of the Universities in the capital city of Phnom Penh.  To receive a scholarship, eligible high school graduates must first pass the government test necessary to be accepted by one of the Universities.  The second requirement is to have been a Girl Guide and completed the training and skill development to become an outstanding citizen and community leader.  Each girl accepted for entrance to the University receives a scholarship that includes paid tuition for four years and a laptop computer.  The University Girls Program is sponsored by local businesswomen.

The Water Filter Program

Phoum Thom has no clean water to drink or use.  Water is taken from the local river with the expectation of it being boiled and then used.  The polluted water is the cause of many illnesses and deaths in the village. In 2011, a grant was written by the Springfield, MA Rotary Club for 1,000 village families to receive a water filter. Every year since 2011, local Rotary clubs have been  invited to sponsor the gift of water filters to the many families who need them.
